Summer is for sampling.

Summer is for a lot of things.  Swimming.  Vacation.  Concerts.  Heat waves.

And beer.  Indy is home to many microbreweries, so a Hoosier needn’t go far to indulge in some local brew.   Whether you are downtown near Sun King or out on the east side near Triton, you can get some local beer 7 days of the week.  But summer brings the annual Indy Microbrewers Fest.

Brew fest!

Saturday was the 17th Microbrewers Fest.  While there were beers from all over the country, there was a large area dedicated just to Indiana beer.  YUM.  The Brewers of Indiana Guild put on a great event.  Waits were not too long, and the beer was flowing.  I lost count of how many beers I was able to sample.  One of the new-to-me favorites was the People’s Brewing Company based out of Lafayette.  Their Farmer’s Daughter Wheat was DELICIOUS!  If you haven’t made it out to this event ever, be on the look out of this event next year.  It’s quite the bang for your buck–and who knows, you might find a new beer to love like me…and then find yourself in a keg-slinging competition, also like me.

Keep following @DoItIndy on Twitter…we will make sure you are up to speed on all the great summer events!  And don’t forget to say hi to me @SlickLaRoo, too!

  • Beer festivals are a blast. I love it when breweries bring beers that you can’t normally get. I do hate long lines, though. I know that the Brewers of Indiana Guild take a lot of pride in their events, and I am glad to hear you had fun! I haven’t had the Farmer’s Daughter Wheat, but People’s makes a lot of great beer.

    Bottoms up!
